Facial Hair Removal Methods

April 28th, 2009 in Facial Hair Removal

Removal of facial hair is a little harder than the rest of the body because of the sensitivity of the skin in the area which is why laser facial hair removal is becoming so popular. Most traditional facial hair removal methods risk irritation and scarring with harsher techniques, but these conditions are usually temporary and last as little as half a day.

Most common methods for facial hair removal are inexpensive options such as shaving and depilatory creams. While cheap and very effective on the outset, it is very temporary and is a treatment for the ‘symptom’ of having hair rather than treating the ‘problem’.

Creams are more expensive ways to remove facial hair but still very affordable for many people. It is a hit or miss solution since many times it doesn’t even work. Also, creams are temporary but can irritate certain skin types. It’s important to test small samples before applying to larger areas of the skin.

Another more painful method is waxing and is popular among women. It’s a longer lasting effect than shaving but ripping hair from the skin hurts and can cause mild inflammation of the skin from all the stress. It’s a method of pulling hair out from the skin and usually is effective at reaching down to the roots.

Long lasting facial hair removal can be attained through laser hair removal procedures. This method is not permanent but does offer very lasting results. Of course it’s the most expensive procedure and that isn’t the only drawback. It could take several visits to the laser hair removal clinic before any results are visible. There is also a chance of skin irritation depending on the sensitivity of the individual’s skin type.

Electrolysis, unlike laser hair removal, is a permanent facial hair removal system. It kills hair by the follicle by zapping it with electrical shocks through a needle. To get permanent results also requires multiple visits because the hair has to be at the right stage of growth before it can be zapped to death. For many people, this method is reserved for other parts of the body and for good reason. The skin on the face is more sensitive and prone to irritation and scarring. It’s an expensive procedure that can cost thousands of dollars per visit making laser facial hair removal that much more appealing in comparison.
